 UCA's First Ever Green Week!

UCA STUDENTS PREPARE FOR FIRST CAMPUS "GREEN" WEEK

Green Week

UCA— The Student Government Association (SGA) at the University of Central Arkansas will be hosting the university's first ever Green Week event on campus on April 20-25. SGA will feature a different green activity for students during each weekday including recycling demonstrations and instructions, a hybrid and fuel-efficient vehicle showcase as well as a presentation by Conway Sanitation by Debbie Plopper. The week will end with the first Great UCA Cleanup on Saturday, April 25.

Student Organizations from all areas of UCA will participate in a cleanup activity that will cover the entire UCA campus. Students will meet at the UCA Fountain on Saturday at 9 a.m. for a Cleanup Kickoff Celebration and then proceed to designation areas of campus to pick up all trash and litter.

"This week will be a great opportunity for UCA Students to learn about the green movement and to get involved in green activities in their own community," said S. Kate Fletcher, Senior Class Representative and Green Week organizer. "UCA is a beautiful campus and SGA feels that students should help to preserve its beauty by picking up trash, keeping the campus clean and also advocating for green reforms on a campus-wide level. This is a great start."

Earlier in the semester, in conjunction with the Conway City Council, the Student Government Association allocated funds to purchase recycling containers to distribute throughout campus.

Amber Kaufman, an SGA Senator-at-Large and Green Week organizer, supported the purchasing the recycling containers and feels that Green Week is a step in the right direction. "Recycling and other green activities really do make a difference. Green Week is a great opportunity for UCA students to learn about the new recycling containers and other steps they can take to go green in their everyday lives."
