The Finance Committee shall propose a budget for the SGA at the beginning of each semester and assist the Vice-President of Finance with the control and handling of all SGA monies. The Finance Committee shall hear the funding request(s) of registered student organizations and make recommendations to the SGA. It shall have the power to request reports from all organizations and activities that request funds from the SGA. The Finance Committee shall Consist of a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate, and Senator-at-Large.

The Student Publications Board works to establish a budget for the three student publications The Scroll, The Vortex, and The Echo. The board also selects the editors for these publications. The Vortex editor is selected at the beginning of the Fall semester; The Echo editor is selected at the end of the Fall and Spring semester, and The Scroll editor is selected at the end of the Spring semester.

Purpose: To insure accountability of all student activity fee funding; to teach budget planning; to encourage organizations to plan ahead; to encourage organizations to justify their expenses; to encourage a greater diversity of activities funded through the student activity fee; and to better organize the SGA to make available more time to deal with non-monetary issues. Goals: The Student Activity Fee Committee will support activities and insure a balance of events that broaden the educational, social, cultural, and recreational opportunities for all University of Central Arkansas students.

The University Committee shall review all matters pertaining to the University. its policies, and its plans. This committee shall advise the SGA in these matters and coordinate any action taken by the SGA in this area. The University Committee shall consist of no less than three-fourths (3/4) SGA membership.

An Election Committee shall be appointed by the President of the SGA, with a two-thirds majority vote of the SGA. The Election Committee shall determine the dates for the election to be held. These dates are subject to the approval of the SGA. The Election Committee will have the power to enforce the election rules. The Election Committee shall monitor each candidate’s campaign and have the power to remove any materials in violation of the election rules. The Student Government Association Election Committee Chairperson shall verify the election and the counting of the votes. NOTE: NO MEMBER OF THE ELECTION COMMITTEE MAY BE APPOINTED TO THE RULES COMMITTEE.

The Rules and Ethics committee with consist of six members: one freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, and senator-at-large. It will be chaired by the Vice-President. It will hear all appealed demerits and vote to uphold the decision to issue the demerit or overturn it. The Rules and Ethics Committee has the authority to issue demerits for inappropriate behavior including policy and Code of Conduct violations.

The Student Life Committee shall review all matters pertaining to Student Life that are brought before the SGA and advise SGA in these matters. They shall coordinate any activity or action taken by SGA in this area. This includes matters pertaining to minority affairs, commuter affairs, and food services. It will review all proposed resolutions and advise the full Senate accordingly. It shall consist of eight members: on freshman, two sophomores, two juniors, two seniors, one graduate and one SAL. Its chair will come from within the committee.

University Student Life Committee

This committee assesses the courses offered at UCA and discusses which general education requirements are appropriate for the university. Senators on this committee are expected to represent the goals and wishes of the majority of the student body to the faculty and staff.

The purpose of the Budget Advisory Committee is to review and evaluate UCA’s budget for the year.

This Committee’s mission is to revise the existing five-year affirmative action plan of the University of Central Arkansas for the next five-year period (2000-2005) in accordance with Act 99 (HB 1162) of the 1989 Arkansas General Assembly, which requires all state-supported colleges and universities to develop five-year public affirmative action plans for recruiting more minority faculty, staff, and students.

The Athletic Committee serves to keep the athletics at the university in check with NCAA regulations regarding the good academic records and other stipulations, but also to promote a strong community for support among the various teams.

The General Education Committee focuses on determining the correct categories for general education classes, looking into distributing the general education courses through more than three colleges, and promoting the value of general education by helping students to understand why they are taking core courses.

This university committee hears the grievances of students with disabilities and works to correct whatever inadequacies exist on campus in meeting the needs of those with disabilities. Members are expected to actively look for places on campus that are not conducive to living with a disability.

This committee is a university committee that hears the financial aid appeals of students who have lost their scholarships. They evaluate the information they receive and determine whether circumstances exist that warrant the reinstallation of financial aid. Senators on this committee are expected to be at each meeting and make unbiased, ethical decisions.

The Graduate Council is responsible for all decisions and recommendations to the Board concerning the operation of graduate programs at the University. This group’s main duties are to recommend courses to make UCA’s graduate programs more competitive, to ensure accreditation criteria requirements of the various departments are in compliance with regulations, and to hear student’s requests on items pertaining to graduate education.

The purpose of this committee is to promote health and wellness on campus for students, staff, and faculty.

The purpose of the Housing Exemptions Committee is to review cases in which students wish to be exempt from the fee imposed on those who break their housing lease. The committee is given specific guidelines to follow, and if the students meet these he or she can be exempt from paying the fee.

The purpose of this committee is to serve as a ticket appeal board and to review parking rules and regulations. The committee reviews current parking and traffic rules and updates them as needed.

The Public Appearances Committee, in conjunction with the Student Government Association, each year brings to the campus a variety of dramatic productions and concerts. These events are intended not only to provide entertainment but also to enrich the cultural and educational atmosphere of the University community.

The committee rules on sexual harassment claims that can not be settled informally.

The purpose of this committee is to hear issues related to the Student Center.

The purpose of the Undergraduate Council Committee is to review and evaluate recommendations made from various academic departments regarding changes or additions to the current academic bulletins and course requirements. After review and discussion, the committee votes to decide whether to accept or deny the proposals. The proposals are either sent back to that department for further evaluation or recommended to the Board for approval. Other issues that were voted on include name changes of Courses and prefix changes. An agenda of the upcoming meeting and recommendations to be discussed is mailed at the beginning of every month and minutes are sent cut after each business meeting.

This is a university committee which creates the yearly schedule for UCA, including exams, term length, and other major events. Senators on this committee convene with faculty and staff to create an appropriate and efficient schedule.

The committee is to hear appeals made by students after receiving sanctions from the Dean of Students, Greek Discipline Committee, Judicial Board, or the Housing Judicial Board. The disciplinary committee serves as the chief review body of disciplinary decisions of the institution. This committee also reviews disciplinary appeals.

This Committee’s goal is to make campus life as safe as possible.
