UCA honors 31 international graduates with graduation sashes

The Spring Commencement ceremony will have an added splash of color this year to add to the normal pomp and circumstance. Each of the international students participating in the ceremony will be wearing a special graduation sash representing their country.
"This spring we have a record number of international students graduating and we wanted to do something special to recognize them. The International Student Services staff felt that providing the graduates with these beautiful sashes to wear at Commencement was an appropriate and unique way to honor the students," said Jim Brosam II, Associate Vice President of International Affairs.
Each sash is based upon the design of individual student's flag. The sashes were presented at a special reception held for the graduating international students and their families. In addition to the sashes, information on the UCA Alumni Association was given to each student.
"We want you to know you will always be a part of UCA, even after you graduate. You are family. Please keep in touch with us," said Jan Newcomer, Director of Alumni Services.
The Spring 2008 international graduating class includes 31 participants in all. Of those 20 are receiving Bachelors degrees, 10 are receiving Masters degrees and one will receive a PhD.
