Nabil Matar

Visiting Humanities Scholar Fall 2003

    Dr. Nabil Matar, professor and chair of the English department at Florida Institute of Technology, is the editor of In the Land of the Christians: Arabic Travel Writing in the Seventeenth Century (Routledge, 2003), and author of Islam in Britain 1558-1685 (Cambridge UP, 1998) and Turks, Moors, and Englishmen in the Age of Discovery (Columbia UP, 1999), among other publications.

   While on campus, Dr. Matar conducted a workshop for UCA general education faculty on conflicting cultural paradigms essential to Islam and Christianity, presided over an Honors College High Table, and delivered a public lecture titled "Contextualizing the Elizabethan Moor: Three Case Studies."
