Faculty/Curricular Development Programs The Humanities and World Cultures Institute coordinates special academic and cultural events in support of Global Studies programs at UCA, as well as assists faculty who desire to extend the reach of their teaching beyond the traditional disciplines. In April 2004, UCA was named a Regional Center by the Asian Studies Development Program of the federally funded East-West Center. The Regional Center is housed in the Institute and oversees UCA's outreach programs in Asian studies.
Visiting Humanities Scholars Program The Visiting Humanities Scholars Program brings to campus for limited period of time scholars whose specialties support the developing curricular interests of the Institute, particularly in Asian, African/African-American, and Latin American Studies.
Visiting Writers Program The Visiting Writers Program brings to the UCA campus distinguished fiction writers, poets, and playwrights whose work manifests a multicultural perspective.
Faculty Development Programs The Humanities and World Cultures Institute supports UCA faculty efforts to extend the global content of their courses and to broaden individual instructors' own cultural perspectives.
Dialogue Center Activities The Humanities and World Cultures Institute schedules book discussion and film appreciation groups that allow interested faculty to develop the World Cultures portion of the general education curriculum.
Faculty Development Bulletin Board The Humanities and World Cultures Institute serves as a clearinghouse for announcements regarding faculty development opportunities in the humanities. As a Regional Center of the Asian Studies Development Program—a joint program of the East West Center and University of Hawaii at Manoa—the Humanities and World Cultures Institute seeks to provide opportunities for UCA faculty to participate in faculty development activities on Asia. Please click on the following link to see opportunities for this year. Faculty members are especially encouraged to apply for the summer programs. Each year we send two to three faculty members to the Institute on Infusing Asian Studies into the Undergraduate Curriculum, but faculty members are encouraged to apply for the other summer programs, as well, especially the China Field Study program. Faculty members applying to the summer programs should contact Dr. Jim Deitrick (deitrick@uca.edu; 450-5592) for more information and to help coordinate their applications.
