With the globalization of today's economies, knowledge of other people's histories, traditions and cultures is advantageous to personal advancement in our contemporary world. Isolation or cultural arrogance is detrimental to global interchange. The Asian Studies minor program allows students to learn about one of the most rapidly growing regions of the world. Composed of many countries diverse in traditions, Asia is rich in history, art, religions, and culture. The Asian Studies minor can be especially helpful to those individuals wishing to enter MBA programs in international business, or people intending to enter graduate schools in subjects related to Asia, or to any student interested in learning about traditions and peoples of Asia.

To prospective Asian Studies minors,
You may have noticed that Asian Studies at UCA is going through a period of change. The good news is that the old curriculum which was hopelessly outdated is currently being revised and updated to reflect the interests and abilities of our current faculty. While these revisions are time consuming, if you are thinking about taking up the Minor Field, rest assured that you will be able to complete the program in a reasonable and timely fashion. We anticipate that the new curriculum will be implemented during the 2008-09 academic year. Until the new curriculum is officially approved and implemented, the coordinator can help you in making course choices or approve appropriate substitutions that will keep you moving along the path toward graduation.
UCA has experienced an infusion of new Asia-related faculty in the last few years and there are more Asia-related courses available to students than ever before including Japanese and Chinese languages. There has never been a better time to study Asia at UCA and the Asian Studies Program is expected to continue evolving in innovative and productive ways that better serve the needs of our students.
Until the curriculum can be revised and approved, the website will have a listing of all the Asia-related courses that are tentatively expected to be offered through the 2008-2009 and 2009-2110 academic years and will reflect the choices that you will have available to you in the near future.
